Microsoft announced the 1.0 release of IronPython. IronPython implements the dynamic object-oriented Python language on top of the CLRIt has been in development for three years,  and is released under a BSD-style license.

Free downloads are provided by the Microsoft Codeplex site at http://www.codeplex.com/IronPython . The website also features a number of sample IronPython projects.

IronPython is both well integrated with the .NET Framework and is a true implementation of the Python language. .NET integration means that this rich programming framework is available to Python developers and that they can interoperate with other .NET languages and tools. All of Python’s dynamic features like an interactive interpreter, dynamically modifying objects and even metaclasses are available.

IronPython developer Jim Hugunin said:

"This is the 1.0 release of IronPython. It's more complete and well tested than any other 1.0 product I have personally released in my career. However, like any other software product it's not perfect. You can search for known issues and let us know about any new ones that you find in our public bug database. We're continuing to work on IronPython and we want your input on how to make 1.1 and future releases even better."
