Verio Inc., provider of hosting and managed services, unveiled the development of its award-winning Virtual Private Server (VPS) hosted service running Red Hat Enterprise Linux version 4. Available to customers and reseller partners worldwide starting in the fourth quarter 2006, the offering will mark Verio's first time to fully support VPS services in the Linux environment. Verio will announce Linux VPS at LinuxWorld, where the company will exhibit and offer demonstrations and live test drive previews of the upcoming offering.

The combination of Verio's VPS technology with Red Hat's Enterprise Linux operating system makes it best suited for small and midsize businesses and resellers, including the developer community. Verio's new Linux VPS solution will leverage a virtualized managed Linux environment with partitioning technology, enabling customers to take advantage of a full suite of managed services, account controls and applications, operating independently in the Linux environment, and at a competitive cost.

Developers and small businesses, who have demanded advanced Linux hosting and managed services features, will receive reliability and dependable uptime with no bandwidth overage fees. Businesses with little IT staff will also have freedom from day-to-day hassles of server maintenance and management since the Verio experts fully support the new Linux infrastructure, including managing data backups, server security and software updates.

Linux VPS extends the same features of the free-BSD-based version of VPS, including:

-- SAN integration - for high-speed network storage

-- VPS control panel - an intuitive web interface that eases VPS set up and administration for less-technical users

-- Verio Reseller Business Tools - to ease the burden of billing and accounting, reporting and other tasks on resellers

-- LAMP Support - Verio handles installs, optimization and security for LAMP (Linux operating system, Apache, MYSQL and Perl/Python/PHP) environments

-- Configurable IP Firewall - for added protection extending beyond the isolated units inherent in VPS Web hosting

-- Network Monitoring - for ongoing observation and scrutinization of the network for failing systems that may be slowing traffic

-- Root Access - to reboot server, configure your account and install web-based applications, software and utilities

"Verio made the decision to offer a Linux-based Web hosting solution, based on feedback from developers and other customers requiring solutions-oriented product offerings running on the Linux operating system," said Heather Boyer, director of product management for Verio. "Linux VPS is one of the results of over a decade of enhancements and refinements to virtualization technology. Verio's VPS has always provided a solution for customers who need to do more than just host a simple Web site, such as create a custom development environment or host a corporate intranet or email system. This extension of VPS to the Linux operating system will provide our customers and resellers another option and more hosting choices."

Verio will offer all LinuxWorld attendees an exclusive demo, as well as a hands-on 'test drive' of the Linux VPS at LinuxWorld, Aug. 15-17, at San Francisco's Moscone Center, Booth #1144.

Verio's Linux-based VPS suite is currently available to Web hosting customers in Japan through Verio's partners in the Asia Pacific region. The solution will be available to customers and partners, including resellers and OEM partners, worldwide in Q406.
