The Perl Foundation announced the winners of the eighth annual White Camel Award, which recognizes the efforts of major Perl supporters and evangelists. The awards were presented at OSCON 2006 by Dave Adler (2001 White Camel recipient for his work with the first ever Perl users group, the New York Perl Mongers) and Sarah Burcham (organizer of the 2002 Yet Another Perl Conference in St. Louis).

The three triangular crystal pieces with an etched camel went to Josh McAdams, the host of Perlcast and the organizer of the 2006 Yet Another Perl Conference in Chicago, Jay Hannah, who supports Perl Mongers user groups, and Randal L. Schwartz, a long-time Perl advocate.

The White Camel Awards were initiated by the Perl Mongers and O'Reilly & Associates at the 1999 Perl Conference.  According to the Perl Foundation, today the White Camel "... is a rare and revered individual. The White Camel Awards recognize the many significant contributions made by the unsung heros of the Perl community. The efforts of these volunteers collectively make the Perl language and the Perl community better for all of us."

The Perl Foundation is a non-profit organization, dedicated to the advancement of the Perl programming language through open discussion, collaboration, design, and code.
