The final beta of Python's latest version was announced on http://www.python.org/.  Version 2.5 proper of the popular programming language is slated for release in early August.

According to the development team, no major changes were made since the previous beta version, aside from a number of bug fixes.A noteworthy feature is the addition of the sys._current_frames() function. This is described as being very useful for tracking down deadlocks and other problems, and a similar approach is already used in the DeadlockDebugger extension for Python-based application server Zope.

Python 2.5 is now in feature freeze mode. Unless absolutely necessary, no functionality changes will be made between now and the final release of Python 2.5.

The full list of changes and downloads are available at http://www.python.org/download/releases/2.5/.
