The Perl Foundation is now accepting proposals for grants.  The non-profit foundation that manages the Perl programming language will sponsor projects in the general vicinity of $500-3000.  Projects have be relevant to the Perl community and the proposals need to be submitted according to the provided guidelines.

Four grant evaluation rounds are held every year. A grant request which has not been rejected will be valid for two quarters, after which it will no longer be considered.  The Perl Foundation issues a yearly public report of all grants issued and their current status.

The guidelines are available online at http://www.perlfoundation.org/gc/rules.html/. Additionally, the Grant Committee Rules of Operation are posted at http://www.perlfoundation.org/gc/rules.html/.  The proposals have to be submitted by email at [email protected].

The following guidelines were included in the original announcement on use.perl.org:

As a general rule, a properly formatted grant proposal is more likely to be approved if it meets the following criteria:

  • It has widespread benefit to the Perl community or a large segment of it.
  • We have reason to believe that you can accomplish your goals.
  • We can afford it (we rarely approve anything more than a couple of thousand dollars).
