Manning Publications released “wxPython in Action” - the first published book on wxPython, an open source graphical user interface (GUI) framework allows developers to build cross-platform applications with have robust, highly functional graphical user interfaces.  Co-authored by wxPython creator and a senior software engineer, “wxPython in Action” is the authoritative book on the subject.

“wxPython in Action” is an easy to use tutorial, a detailed guide to best practices, and an extensive reference for wxPython’s large widget library. The book’s direct style makes for an easy introduction to the concepts. It offers a complete discussion of when, why, and how to use the many widgets in the toolkit and includes dozens of handy reference tables of object properties, methods, and events.

Comparing wxPython with Tkinter, the toolkit that is distributed with Python, author Robin Dunn says that for him, “Tkinter just wouldn't fit my brain, no matter how hard I tried. For other wxPython users, it’s the completely native look and feel that wxPython has that Tkinter doesn't.” On the other hand, he says “wxPython is a large toolkit and can be more difficult to learn, but there are remedies for that. ‘wxPython in Action’ is one of them.”

The book's author, Noel Rappin is a senior software engineer at Motorola and a leading Python practitioner. He has a Ph.D. from the Georgia Institute of Technology and lives in Chicago, IL. A veteran of the software industry for almost two decades, Robin Dunn is the creator and maintainer of wxPython.
