The phpBB team announced the release of the first beta of phpBB forum software. With the beta the testing phase for the new release has officially commenced.
phpBB is a scalable and customizable open source bulletin board package with a user-friendly interface,
simple and straightforward administration panel, and helpful FAQ. phpBB is a free
community solution for web sites, based
on the powerful PHP server language and either MySQL, MS-SQL,
PostgreSQL or Access/ODBC database servers.
During the beta phase a minimal level of support will be given. The development team
will provide answers to general setup questions, configuration problems
and support for determining common problems mostly related to bugs. No support wil be provided for modifications, custom code/style additions or any
users using the beta packages within a live environment.
Beginning with the release candidates full support will be given.
Within the beta packages several features are not included. These
are the updater and the conversion tool for converting phpBB 2.0.x (and
other packages) to phpBB 3.0.x. These might be included with later betas, but certainly with the first Release Candidate.
An initial quick start guide is available for use with the beta. The documentation will be
evolving over the course of the beta and Release Candidate phases. phpBB 3.0 Requirements:
