VA Software announced a free, full-feature version of its collaborative software development platform, SourceForge Enterprise Edition (SFEE).

The download, which includes a perpetual, no-cost license for 15 users, is available at www.vasoftware.com.

Built on the Java 2 Enterprise Edition J2EE platform, SFEE provides developers the features, scalability, reliability and robustness they expect in an enterprise-class product. In developing SFEE, VA Software has leveraged its deep understanding of software development processes gained from operating SourceForge.net, the world's largest open source community development site which boasts more than 1.3 million developers and hosts more than 121,000 projects.

"With SFEE we have a compelling platform for collaboration. Our developers are spread all over the world, and SourceForge allows us to bring them all together under one roof so they can ultimately be more effective. SFEE gives developers the flexibility to work how they want while the real-time activity tracking and project monitoring capabilities provide managers and other team members with the transparency they need to stay informed of project status," said Michael J. Sikorsky, CEO of Cambrian House Inc. "SourceForge has enabled us to develop software and bring products to market at fierce speed."

SFEE is optimized for the enterprise environment with features such as LDAP and Wiki integration, workflow tracking capabilities, role-based access controls and support for multiple Software Configuration Management (SCM) tools. With SFEE, development teams of any size can work effectively to deliver higher-quality products more rapidly. This download lets development teams experience the benefits of the powerful collaborative capabilities of SFEE.

"No other vendor of collaborative development software on the market today offers such an easy option for evaluation and testing," said Liz Barnett, principal analyst at EZ Insight Inc. and editor in chief of the Agile Journal. "VA is offering developers and development managers a no-risk, no-commitment option for evaluating its highly productive toolset. Development teams should take advantage of the download at the start of their next project and experience the benefits of SFEE firsthand."

"We want to make it as easy as possible for developers to access the power of SourceForge," said Darryll Dewan, group president, SourceForge Enterprise Software. "With this free download development teams can quickly deploy and reap the benefits from the flexibility and collaboration capabilities of SourceForge Enterprise Edition."
