"The Perl Foundation is proud to be participating in this year's Google Summer of Code," states the dedicated page at the official TPF website.  TPF has put online a number of resources for students, willing to participate in this year's Summer of Code.  The page contains links to programming ideas for the event, registration tips, and a list of the 2005 Summer of Code Perl Projects ( http://www.perl.org/advocacy/summerofcode/ ).

Summer of Code 2006 is a program that offers student developers stipends to create new open source programs or to help currently established projects. The program's goals are to inspire young developers and provide students in Computer Science and related fields the opportunity to do work related to their academic pursuits during the summer, and to support existing open source projects and organizations.

This year more than one hundred organizations have enlisted as participating mentors.  They include (in no particular order) Gimp, FreeBSD, Apache Software Foundations, KDE, PHP, and many more.  More info at http://code.google.com/soc/ .
