The speaker line-up for the next  Yet Another Perl Conference North America (YAPC::NA 2006) has been announced on the event's official website at http://yapcchicago.org/.  The three-day event will feature lectures from prominent experts on Perl and general programming tpics.

YAPC::NA 2006 will take place in Chicago from June 26th to June 28th.  Registration for YAPC is $100 US, but through April 30th the registration cost is only $85 US. The open classes following YAPC are $200 US each.

YAPC is an inexpensive conference with its roots in the Perl Mongers Perl users groups.  YAPC began as a smaller, regional version of TPC in the Eastern USA, hosted by Carnegie Mellon University, and has become a series of conferences held in multiple areas of the globe, all aimed at bringing together the Perl community in an accessible manner.

From the event's website: "While The Perl Conference plays an important role in the Perl community, there are some things that fall through the cracks at such a large, relatively corporate conference. Attendance fees of $1,000 or more are prohibitive, especially to students (though there are deep student discounts); furthermore, the conference is on the West Coast, incurring travel expenses for those in the east, on top of the conference expense. YAPC is driven from the bottom up, organized by and for Perl users — a grassroots conference."

Organizer group Chicago Perl Mongers (chicago.pm.org) is the Chicago area chapter of the Perl Mongers - "an informal organization of interested Perl programmers, users, readers, writers, hackers, mungers, manglers, and even a few innocent bystanders."
