Eclipse Community Award Winners Announced

The Eclipse Foundation announced the award-winners at the ongoing EclipseCon in Santa Clara.  The Eclipse Community Awards are to recognize and thank the individuals and techniques that benefit the Eclipse developer community.

The awards are split into individual and tecnology awards.  The "individual" category includes Top Contributor, Top Committer and Top Ambassador.  The "technology" category recognizes best open source RCP application, best commercial RCP application, best open source Eclipse based developer tool, best commercial Eclipse based developer tool, and best deployment of Eclipse technology in an enterprise.  The complete list of winners is available here.

Nominations for the awards were accepted until the end of January 2006.  Voting commenced on February 10.  A jury of 14 leading developers and technology experts oversaw the award proceedings. 

Notably, BEA Workshop Studio 3.0 studio won the award for best commercial developer tool, which was the most contested category.  The BEA product consists of:

  • BEA Workshop JSP Editor
  • BEA Workshop for Struts
  • BEA Workshop for JSF
  • EJB3 - Hibernate ORM Mapping Workbench
  • DbXplorer, DbXaminer relational database tools
  • Unique AppXRay technology for all the above
  • Spring IDE Project for Spring Bean development
The Studio offers professional support for the development of sophisticated web applications based on industry standards like JSF, EJB3, and JSP and popular frameworks like Spring, Hibernate, Struts and Tiles.
