Award-Winning Windows Logon Scripting Editor to Become Open Source

August 8, 2007; 03:08 AM
Entrigue Systems, announced plans to release its popular Windows logon scripting solution, Script Start, to the open source community next month. Entrigue is making the move to bolster the development and customization of Script Start for its users and to be able to turn its attention more fully to complimentary products under development.

"The open source community and our users have repeatedly requested that we make Script Start open source so that the solution can more fully and rapidly adapt to specific corporate and system integrator implementations," said Jon McDonald, President of Entrigue Systems. "Releasing Script Start to open source will allow our development teams to concentrate more fully on the complimentary solutions under development while continuing to grow our Script Start user base.

As part of the plan, Entrigue plans to seek official Open Source Initiative (OSI) Approval for Script Start. Entrigue also plans to launch an online forum for the community which will help facilitate the sharing of updated Script Start code, tips, and resources. The company is still considering whether it will license Script Start under the GPLv2 or GPLv3 open source license and the specifics of where it will make the source code available.

Entrigue plans to continue to offer a fully supported commercial version of Script Start to customers that demand the best support and customer service for the product available anywhere. The commercial version of Script Start is affordably priced at $990 per domain controller with the ability to manage an unlimited number of client PCs. There are no client licenses to manage and no software to install on individual desktops. Script Start only needs to be installed on the networked domain controller and then can be administered with an easy-to-use graphical interface via the web. Script Start fully supports both Windows and Linux servers.
