XenSource Surpasses 500th Customer for Its Virtualization Software

July 18, 2007; 05:45 AM
XenSource, Inc., the leader of the open source Xen virtualization project and a provider of enterprise virtualization solutions, today announced that they have signed over 500 commercial customers for XenEnterprise and XenServer -- doubling their customer base during the past quarter. New customers include AmerisourceBergen, Cimex Media UK, Harvard University, Intuit, Investcorp, KBC Clearing, Miami Herald, Moen, NASDAQ, Palm, Rollins, Inc., and Sankyo. Additionally, since introducing XenExpress, their free product, at the end of 2006, they have experienced more than 100,000 downloads, illustrating the intense interest in new virtualization solutions.

Enterprises are realizing that they have a choice in virtualization and XenSource offers great products that are easy to use, offer high performance for Windows and Linux and are very innovative and open, said John Bara, VP of marketing for XenSource. This realization has significantly grown our market share, helping us sign more than 500 customers since first introducing our products late last year. As we prepare for our next release, were seeing more and more customers migrate over from traditional players in virtualization and choose XenSource virtualization over our competitors.

XenSource will introduce the newest release of its XenEnterprise product, version 4.0, in late August 2007.

What Customers Worldwide Are Saying About XenSource Products

We are familiar with the virtualization offerings available on the market today, and selected XenEnterprise because we found it to be a solid choice for our Windows environment, said Robert Wicks, Sr. AIM/Linux systems administrator with Rollins, Inc., based in Atlanta, Georgia. XenSource is easy to use, and we were impressed by their solid product roadmap.

XenEnterprise proved very easy to install and put into production, said Espen Fjelsdad of Norway-based Hurum Kommune. The solution is now demonstrating itself to be very important in how we run and maintain our Windows Citrix server farm.

We chose XenEnterprise instead of VMware due to the price quality ratio it offered, said Mario Molinari of Belgium-based Graydon Belgium BV. We could not justify the high costs of VMware and found that XenEnterprise perfectly met our needs. In fact we are planning to deploy more XenEnterprise servers over the coming months and also using it in our disaster recovery plan.

XenSource has made our lives much easier by allowing us to follow banking regulations through the provisioning of virtual servers, said Rob de Wit, IT specialist at Netherlands-based KBC Clearing. We have found XenEnterprise easy to use, enabling us to create virtual machines in minutes and reduce the number of physical servers, helping to simplify our data center and allowing us to more easily manage our virtual environments.

To be honest, we havent needed to look at the servers since we installed XenEnterprise on them. We are one hundred percent happy with the product as it does exactly what it says in the documents, and we are now looking forward to taking advantage of the new features in the next release, said Kashif Ali of UK-based Gullivers Travel Associates.

We reviewed several virtualization options, but selected XenSource for its flexibility and outstanding feature set, said Mark Lichtenberg, systems network analyst for Broward County, Florida. We have found that it is a simple, very cost effective way to implement our virtualization plan for our Windows and Linux servers and desktops.

XenEnterprise has provided us with a cost effective and rapid method to deploy new solutions by allowing us to improve the delivery and effort in our development and test cycles, said Terry McLean of Australias Department of Natural Resources.

We like the feature set and affordability of XenEnterprise, said Otto Jongerius of Netherlands-based AtoBE BV. This in combination with the strength of the open source Xen hypervisor has proven very compelling for our virtualization requirements.

"Moving to XenEnterprise virtualized servers has made a massive difference to our remote hosting environment, said Simon Buchanan of New Zealand-based New Media Limited. Last week our last remaining 'legacy' server had an irreplaceable hardware failure. We were down a few minutes rather than 2 days."

After an easy installation process we now have three XenServers running a total of 16 virtual machines on both Windows and Linux, said Jaap van der Stoel, manager ICT at the Amsterdam Public Library. They have been running without interruption, just showing us how much more efficiently we can use the processor resources.

XenEnterprise is a strategic platform for Burgmann Industries delivering significant cost efficiencies for our time critical Windows 2003 and Linux based services, said Franz Kneissl of Burgmann Industries, based in Germany.

XenEnterprise has saved us a lot of time and money. For a recent client, we only had to buy two servers rather than ten, said Peter Murray, systems engineer at Cimex Media UK. Were passing these benefits onto clients by getting their websites to them faster while having even more time to test them before going live.
