International Association of Software Architects to Explore Rationale for Using Portals in May 24 Web Seminar

May 22, 2007; 07:19 AM
The International Association of Software Architects (IASA) [www.IASAhome.org], a 5,000-member association focused on defining and supporting the professional duties of IT architects, will conduct a web seminar on Large Scale Portal Architectures on May 24 from noon-1:30pm (Eastern). With the theme of The Pros and Cons of a Portal Architecture, the webinar will be conducted by Brian Chan, Chief Software Architect at Liferay, Inc.

Whether creating a new site or enhancing or upgrading an existing web one, there is often a temptation to expand it into a portal to other Internet services and sites, said Chan. This may be a good idea, but not always. The presentation will explore the various motivations, arguing against the bad reasons to avoid using a portal, and giving good reasons to use a portal.

The webinar will take place at www.IASAhome.org, and is open to the public at no charge.

Brian Chan is the Chief Software Architect and founder of Liferay, the industry leader for open source solutions. Companies of all sizes and industries are turning to open source solutions for reliable and cost-effective measures to increase performance, reliability, and flexibility. Liferay stands at the forefront of OSS technology and is a trusted source for companies worldwide.

Chan began work on Liferay Portal in 2000 and nurtured it to become the most popular open source Java EE portal today. Passionate about elegant and innovative software design, Chan incorporates the best technologies into the portal framework. He is particularly committed to the work of portals to bring together social communities, and has deployed pro-bono portals for many non-profit organizations. His thought leadership earned him a seat on the committee for JSR 286, the next portlet container specification.

IASA is a vendor agnostic, non-profit association focused on defining and supporting the professional duties of IT architects. The May 24 webinar is part of IASAs continuing commitment to presenting critical technical concepts and career enhancement approaches for its 5,000 members.
