LogicLibrary Logidex 5.0 for .NET Enhances Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server (TFS)

February 27, 2007; 06:45 AM
LogicLibrary®, the leader in design-time SOA governance and software reuse, today announced the availability of Logidex 5.0 for .NET. This release expands the use of Smart Controls to include service consumption governance, offers SOA-based ROI metrics, internationalization through the Visual Studio add-in, and provides more granular control of artifacts stored in TFS. Logidex 5.0 makes it easier than ever for developers and architects to collaborate create and manage world-class business applications, while delivering the next generation of design-time SOA governance via a closed loop process.

Logidex is a design-time repository/registry with configurable governance policies that make it possible for organizations to actively track and manage services from design to development through deployment. Logidexs unique combination of a repository for services production, a registry for services and artifact consumption, and automated UDDI and ESB publication options; provides governance capabilities for the entire SOA lifecycle. Logidex is the only repository and registry to feature interoperability and tight integration with the industrys major development environments, including Eclipse, IBM WebSphere Studio, IBM Rational Application Developer, Software Modeler and Software Architect, Microsoft Visual Studio .NET, Borland JBuilder and SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio.

While runtime governance and management is necessary for a successful SOA initiative, it is not sufficient. For enterprises to effectively define and manage an SOA, there must be a flexible way at design-time for consumers to provide timely feedback and enhancement requests to producers; and a system for management to control the way services are being consumed. Only with a closed-loop process at design-time can organizations ensure they are successfully managing the information flow from architecture to development to operations, and vice versa. What is needed is LogicLibrarys NextGen Design-time SOA Governance, said LogicLibrary CEO Alan Himler.

Logidex 5.0 for .NET includes:

  • Team Foundation Server Version Control Enhancements include the flexibility for artifacts (both project/solution-based and individual files) to be specified either by label or by version, improving the visibility and management of these resources through the Logidex Visual Studio add-in.
  • Extension of Active Directory Multi-Domain Support which enables organizations with distributed Active Directory domains (e.g. for multinationals or separate lines of business), to provide integrated and seamless authentication support from a single Logidex installation. This extension decreases deployment time while not compromising on enterprise security standards.
  • Smart Controls for Asset/Service Consumption organizations can now gain control over what is being consumed, minimizing or eliminating the proliferation of rogue services and improving service quality, usage and ROI.
  • AnySource Artifact Adapter acts as Single Sign On (SSO) for artifact retrieval, insulating users from the cumbersome access complexities that exist with many different systems of record (SCM systems, document management systems, etc.) and increasing the range of artifacts that can be incorporated as part of SDAs, improving user productivity and SOA usage.
  • SOA-based ROI Metrics Logidex can now quantify the costs and benefits of using services and components. We have determined that the typical effort required to create a reusable services is only 20% above that required to create a single use service, and that organizations can save 90% of their development costs for each reuse of a service when compared to new service development. These metrics are included as a configuration option in the Integrated Governance Reports.
  • Virtual Asset Window Different roles in an enterprise require different information concerning an asset/service to facilitate understanding, governance, and consumption. To drive improved understanding of assets/services, Logidex role definition capabilities are extended to the asset/service presentation level. Logidex users can quickly and easily see only the information they need in the order they prefer concerning an asset/service. This capability broadens the types of users accessing, using and promoting services throughout the enterprise.
  • Active Asset Analysis (AAA) this feature provides organizations with a robust capability to give their assets/services a highly configurable AAA rating. These ratings provide detailed consumption feedback on asset/service usage which can be used to improve decision making on future SOA development efforts and prioritizing user enhancements concerning existing or new services.
