August 21, 2006; 05:44 AM
Altiris, Inc. (Nasdaq:ATRS), a pioneer of service-oriented management solutions,  announced that IDG's Computerworld has selected Altiris Software Virtualization Solution technology (SVS) as a winner of its Computerworld Horizon Award for innovative technologies. Altiris SVS technology was chosen for the award because it helps reduce support costs and streamline software operations.

The Computerworld Horizon Awards honor the developers of important new enterprise technologies that have recently entered the marketplace and help to inform readers of cutting-edge technologies that are "on the horizon." Software Virtualization Solution was evaluated by an independent panel of CIOs and was based on a nomination profiling the enterprise IT need addressed by the Altiris technology.

"The Computerworld Horizon Awards recognize companies developing innovative, promising technologies which hold the potential to significantly affect enterprises in the near future," said Don Tennant, editor in chief of Computerworld. "Our panel of senior IT executives evaluated more than two hundred submissions from leading corporations, universities and research labs. Altiris Software Virtualization Solution was chosen for its ability to reduce the cost and complexity of software ownership while helping to deliver better IT service. All of the award winners are demonstrating leadership in IT management and innovation in their industry sectors."

The Computerworld Horizon Award marks the latest accolade in a series of successes that validate the potential of SVS. By providing faster, simpler and more manageable deployment of desktop applications, SVS is quickly gaining popularity in business computing environments.

Carine Clark, Altiris VP of marketing, said, "We have an incredible, global team of software engineers and developers who work diligently to create cutting-edge IT service management software. Their technology innovations help significantly reduce IT ownership cost and complexity for thousands of businesses around the world. It is fulfilling to see this latest effort recognized by a panel of peers and IT executives selected by Computerworld."
