July 21, 2006; 06:06 AM Developers, scripts, job schedulers, workflow management and other applications can now use the application programming interface (API) in the newest version of MOVEit Central to access and control its extensive enterprise-level automated file transfer and processing capabilities.
MOVEit Central is used to pull, process and push files on a scheduled, event-driven or on-demand basis between a wide variety of internally and externally located computers, including MOVEit DMZ secure file transfer servers. Central does this using easy-to-create tasks (no programming required). Each Central task can move one or more files between multiple source and destination systems using various combinations of popular secure and/or non-secure file transfer standards, and Central can execute multiple tasks simultaneously.
Tasks can also process files using built-in Central capabilities, including commercially licensed OpenPGP and S/MIME encryption, ZIP/UNZIP, the ability to find/replace character strings and transform XML files with XSL documents, as well as by running VBS scripts to execute command-line utilities, programs with COM interfaces, and script interpreters like Perl.
Now third-parties can control these capabilities by using the Central API interface option to do the following.
-- Start specific tasks to transfer and process files automatically
-- Select transfer source and destination systems, paths and files dynamically
-- Receive task data for logging, decision making and programmatic control
Use of the Central API interface requires a locally installed copy of the Central API Java or Windows COM command-line client, the Central API Java class or the API COM component. The Central API interface is a separately licensed and priced MOVEit Central option. The license provides unlimited use of the API interface, API command-line clients, Java class and COM component. Licensing, pricing and evaluation information is available from Standard Networks.
