Flexible Web Application Firewall May Be Deployed as Pure Software, Hardware Appliance, or Both Simultaneously October 23, 2007; 05:16 AM
Stand 21, RSA Europe 2007, ExCel Centre, London - 23 October 2007
Protegrity Corporation,
provider of Data Security Management solutions, has announced the first
comprehensive web application security solution for large-scale
distributed enterprises that can be deployed as pure software, an
appliance, or both simultaneously. Part of Protegrity's award-winning
Defiance Security Software Suite, the Defiance Threat Management System
(TMS) appliance provides multiple benefits including effortless
deployment and out of the box protection. The Defiance TMS Appliance
will be available by the end of the year.
"Our customers are interested in deploying appliances in addition to
our existing software solutions to better match their global needs,"
said Gordon Rapkin, Protegrity’s president and CEO. "We consistently
hear that in a global environment with many web applications, offering
one deployment solution causes unneeded overhead on already stretched
resources, or delays the implementation of security on vulnerable
applications. Our solution now allows the organisation to choose the
option that fits their needs best, which in many cases will be a
combination of the two.”
Defiance TMS is the intelligent way to manage both evolving and known
security threats effectively. Defiance TMS may be deployed in-line for
intrusion prevention, or deployed out-of-band for continuous intrusion
detection. Protegrity’s Intelligent Escalation™ technology provides
advanced control over web application security by enabling both
deployment options to change their operational modes dynamically in
response to threats and an enterprise's security policies, enabling
effective security and assisting in regulatory compliance efforts. Any
attack in any single location will automatically trigger fast targeted
defensive responses throughout the entire enterprise.
Web application data breaches and threats are sharply on the rise.
ComputerWorld recently reported that the percentage of online
vulnerabilities attributable to security holes in web applications
jumped to 72% in Q2 of 2007 from 67% in Q1. Conversely, security holes
attributable to network vulnerabilities fell to 28% from 33%.
Defiance TMS protects against the most damaging attacks including SQL
injection, cross-site scripting, brute force attacks, session tampering
and cookie poisoning.
The recent breach at job search site Monster.com comprised 1.3 million
job seekers' personal information, and, CNet reported "holds an
important lesson for businesses banking on the web to conduct
business…" Most enterprises are "not even aware that their traditional
network firewalls cannot protect against these attacks,” Forrester
Research stated in its study Web Application Firewall Forecast: 2007 to
2010.
