DataCore Software at SNW Europe 2007: Storage Networking “Goes Virtual” and Hardware FreeOctober 29, 2007; 07:41 AM Storage Networking World Europe 2007 Booth G 16
FRANKFURT, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Leading storage virtualization vendor DataCore Software announced at Storage Networking World Europe (29th – 31st October, Congress Centre, Frankfurt) new iSCSI SAN and disaster recovery solutions for small and mid-size businesses, UpTempo™ performance accelerators, “Free to Try” downloadable thin provisioning software and a major enhancement that adds virtual machine (VM) versatility to its entire line of storage virtualization solutions – SANmelody™, SANsymphony™ and Traveller™ CDP. “In total, today’s announcement represents a major revamp of our product line,” states George Teixeira, CEO and president, DataCore Software Corporation. “The new solutions and capabilities make it simpler for small and mid-size customers to ‘go virtual.’” Storage Networking World is the leading European customer conference for storage and storage infrastructure and is entirely focused on showcasing innovative storage solutions. SNW 2007 pre-registration research shows that virtualization is on top of the agenda for visitors attending the show. In addition, within virtual server environments top storage priorities include business continuity, performance and disaster recovery. Accompanied by its long-time Value Added Distributor, ACAL, DataCore will unveil several important announcements set to revolutionize storage networking and virtualization for small and mid-size companies. DataCore Virtual SAN Solutions Run “Hardware-Free” on Virtual Machines Topping the bill of multiple announcements is the news that DataCore’s storage virtualization and management platforms SANmelody™, SANsymphony™, and Traveller™ for continuous data protection can now be implemented ‘hardware free’ on virtual machines in combination with today’s leading server virtualization platforms – VMware, Citrix XenSource, Virtual Iron, Microsoft. Users can now avoid the cost of new hardware. Instead of buying additional servers, they can consolidate and repurpose their existing systems as SAN servers or run DataCore on virtual machines. As virtual SAN servers, the solutions provide a new level of consolidation and flexibility never previously experienced – making it affordable and practical to deploy virtual SANs where they have never gone before. “Virtualization now represents the major paradigm shift in IT and storage,” comments Christian Hagen, VP Europe, DataCore Software. “Storage is becoming increasingly a software topic and with DataCore it has become an application like any other. Our latest enhancements go one step further: they virtualize storage on virtual servers. Storage server solutions running on virtual machines (VMs) shift the solution away from hardware-based storage solutions towards flexible, hardware-independent, software-based storage solutions and infrastructures.” This new capability from DataCore empowers businesses to further realize the benefits of virtual SANs to support server and desktop consolidation infrastructure with centralized storage management, backup, as well as disaster recovery solutions across data centers and remote or branch offices. Any businesses small or large can now significantly reduce data storage costs and management overhead, while increasing storage utilization, agility and data availability within a Citrix XenSource, VMware or Microsoft Infrastructure environment. Go Green: DataCore’s Hardware-Independent Thin Provisioning Can Trim Fat Storage By 50%; Reduces Storage Hardware Burden on Wallet and Planet DataCore will also showcase that it has made its thin provisioning software easily available by download to anyone who wants to try it. Thin provisioning is revolutionizing storage management and energy savings in data centers around the world. However, most potential users have limited access to the technology because vendors restrict their thin provisioning solutions to work only with their own higher priced storage arrays and disks. As part of the announcement, Mike Karp, senior analyst, Enterprise Management Associates, states, “Thin provisioning can be great solution for budget-strapped IT managers. It saves money, time, worry, and is 'green,' so it makes companies good environmental citizens. The DataCore approach, like that of VMware, and Citrix, is not wrapped in expensive hardware. A customer’s investment is protected because DataCore thin provisioning will keep working even if their hardware infrastructure changes.” To make the benefits of thin provisioning even more accessible, DataCore has made a 30-day free trial available for download at www.datacore.com/download.asp. UpTempo: Overcome Performance Bottlenecks Due to Slow Disk I/O In addition, new server versions of DataCore’s UpTempo performance accelerators can be seen at the show. UpTempo software can be easily downloaded so users can see for themselves how it optimizes Microsoft Exchange, SQL Databases, Virtual Servers, Citrix XenDesktops, Virtual Desktop Infrastructures (VDI) and other I/O intensive applications. The performance can be accelerated by a factor of 3 to 4x I/O performance (and sometimes 10x or more). Seeing is believing! New iSCSI SAN and Disaster Recovery Solutions for Growing SMBs and SMEs Lastly, DataCore has announced an expanded range of Virtual Infrastructure Foundation (VIF) Acceleration Bundles designed to enable small and midsize businesses and enterprises (SMB/Es) to affordably implement iSCSI Virtual SANs and fault tolerant shared storage to support physical application servers and virtual server systems. All the solutions include DataCore’s high-speed caching technologies designed to accelerate storage performance as well as thin provisioning that optimizes storage utilization. “All of our new SMB solution bundles include thin provisioning, high-speed caching, SANmotion data migration capabilities, iSCSI support and hardware independent storage virtualization,” states Teixeira. “These solutions are aimed at users considering high-performance shared storage for virtual server deployments, iSCSI SAN infrastructures and disaster recovery solutions. Our €1,000 Virtual SAN bundle overcomes the cost barrier to entry and the new business continuity solutions take fault tolerant storage for VM servers to a new level.” The packaged offerings include:
