PASS Invites SQL Server Community to Mile High Summit

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS), the first independent, user-run global association of SQL Server professionals representing more than 25,000 SQL Server users announced today their annual user group Summit will be held September 18th to 21st in Denver. The worlds largest Microsoft SQL Server Users conference and expo has expanded this year, offering over 130+ technical sessions dedicated to SQL Server and Microsoft Business Intelligence. Participants can choose sessions from high profile SQL community speakers such as Itzik Ben-Gan, Kalen Delaney, Wayne Snyder, Erin Welker and James Luetkehoelter, as well as sessions from Microsoft heavy hitters including Tom Casey, Ted Kummert and Bill Baker.

Last years PASS Summit was jam-packed with technical and strategic sessions for SQL professionals, attracting a record 2,000 participants. This year, our plan is to kick it up a notch by expanding the number of sessions we offer and placing an increased emphasis on Business Intelligence based on the SQL Server platform, said Kevin Kline, PASS president. The PASS trade show expo includes industry giants such as CA, Microsoft, Dell, Unisys and HP who will all be bringing their latest back-end equipment and software for attendees to view.

2007 PASS Summit Highlights

Keynote by Ted Kummert, Microsoft VP Data Storage and Platform Division

Find out whats coming down the SQL Server product pipeline in SQL Server 2008 from the Vice President in charge. As corporate vice president of the Data Storage and Platform Division at Microsoft Corp., Ted Kummert leads the team that delivers application platform products. Kummerts keynote will highlight underlying database trends and directions that lead to the decisions for new services and features in the next SQL Server version to launch in 2008.

Microsoft PerformancePoint Launch

Every year the PASS Summit increases SQL users ability to design, administer and maintain their SQL platforms to ensure optimal success for mission critical business applications. Join keynote speaker, Bill Baker, General Manager, Business Intelligence, Microsoft Corporation to hear about the launch of PerformancePoint. Baker will present some of its planning forecasting and score-carding capabilities in a product preview, the day after its official launch.

Hands-On Comparison Test Labs

Attendees who bring their own cubes for analysis, will get the chance to compare query performance between SQL Server Analysis Services 2005 and SQL Server Analysis Services 2008 in one of three hands-on labs at the show. The Analysis Services team is on the lookout for how these changes affect performance in actual cubes. Prizes will be awarded for best performance improvement, most complicated scenario and most interesting problems.

Microsoft Customer Advisory Team to Share Insider Tips

A new mini-track about SQL implementations in larger organizations will be presented by MCAT members who have many insights, dos and donts to share from real world experiences setting up multiple server facilities for some of the largest companies in the world.

Women in Technology - 5th Anniversary Lunch

The Women in Technology (WIT) Special Interest Group will be celebrating 5 years of continuous growth at the WIT luncheon, Sept 20. Featured panelists include PASS Chapter leaders, Sharon Dooley and Lara Rubbelke. Dooley has a consulting practice and teaches and writes courses for Learning Tree International, where she is SQL Server Curriculum Manager. Rubbelke is Service Line Leader with Digineer where she consults on architecting, implementing and improving SQL Server solutions.

Microsoft MVPs Lounge

In terms of their technical and industry knowledge, Microsoft MVPs (Most Valuable Professionals) are at the apex of the SQL Server community. Conference goers can meet them one-on-one in the lounge to discuss new ideas and concepts with these leading lights of industry.
