CenterTools Launches DriveLock 5.0 Device and Application Control Software

July 27, 2007; 03:39 AM
CenterTools Inc. announced today the availability of DriveLock 5.0 device and application control software.

DriveLock 5.0 runs on Windows-based computers and takes control of all peripheral ports. Administrator-defined rules determine which user is allowed to use which device and what files can be transferred to and from each device. DriveLock makes encrypted drives truly portable by enforcing encryption of data thats copied to mobile media while allowing access on computers that dont have DriveLock installed, such as an employees home computer. The completely redesigned reporting component lets administrators track who copies data to any device and whether encryption was used.

DriveLock means comprehensive endpoint protection that gives administrators complete control over the use of peripheral devices, allowed applications and network connections, said Joern Wettern, vice president for technology, CenterTools. We can secure confidential data with truly portable encryption. We designed DriveLock to be easy to deploy and easy to administer, and we made Version 5.0 even easier to use. As a result, IT administrators need to worry less about data integrity and they can spend their time more productively supporting the organizational needs rather than trying to do damage control.

DriveLock brings peace of mind to IT professionals and management by controlling and reporting device use and data transfers. It helps achieve regulatory compliance by auditing device and application use, and can save money by reducing liability from computer attacks, theft and disclosure of confidential data. Other new features of DriveLock 5.0 include Network Profiles, which let administrators control to which networks a user can connect and the ability to use DriveLocks protection in a terminal server environment an industry first.

After evaluating a few different products and solutions, DriveLock was by far the best one, said Joe Lio, director of information technology, South Florida Educational Federal Credit Union. There were a few that were similar in concept, but not as granular or as easy to configure. I would recommend this to any corporation that wants to control access to their systems via external media. Kudos to the developers.

Benefits of DriveLock 5.0

Helps prevent disclosure of confidential data DriveLocks device control and data encryption eliminates the security risks and worries associated with lost storage devices. DriveLock provides better protection for workers who may lose or misplace devices containing proprietary company data. The encryption technology is automatic and transparent to the employee.

Prevents unsafe computing practices DriveLocks Application Launch Filter technology stops unwanted programs and limits users to only approved programs. It can even block zero-day attacks that exploit vulnerabilities for which no solution is currently available.

DriveLock is the only solution that provides granular application and client drive control for Windows and Citrix terminal servers.

Network profiles let you control to which networks users can connect.

Provides superior auditing and compliance DriveLock can monitor all device activity and record all data copied to and from services. The Security Reporting Center helps you find information quickly and efficiently.

DriveLock controls the use of most types of devices, including: Bluetooth, Palm, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, virtual devices (VMware), Smart Phone, memory card readers, imaging devices, network adapters, modems, infrared, USB controllers, FireWire controllers, audio, video and game controllers, PC Card controllers, printers, cellular phones, input devices (HID), media players, biometric devices and software protection devices (dongles) and more.

DriveLock software is currently in use by more than 15 countries, protecting corporations, government agencies and other organizations ranging from 25 to 50,000 users.
