Sedo Partners With Prolexic to Provide Cutting-Edge Protection From DDoS Attacks

April 26, 2007; 07:58 AM
Sedo, the leading online marketplace for the buying and selling of domain names, has closed an agreement with Prolexic Technologies, the global leader in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) mitigation.

Prolexic has tailored a service to provide DDoS mitigation for all of Sedo's three million-plus parked domain names. Utilizing a custom interface, Sedo can view attack traffic directed at the network and determine which domain is being targeted. In case of attack, Sedo can route its traffic through Prolexic's mitigation infrastructure within minutes.

The decision to adopt protective measures was prompted by an attack in February on a domain name parked on Sedo’s servers. This attack followed a rash of DDoS attacks, which have in the past year caused problems for many domain-parking companies. Due to the extremely large volume of domain names parked on their servers, domain-parking companies are particularly susceptible to denial of service attacks.

“We have experienced the effects of DDoS when our members have been attacked, even though Sedo itself has not been a direct target,” said Matt Bentley, Sedo’s Chief Strategy Officer. “Since maintaining 100 percent uptime for our customers is a top priority for us, we are pleased that Prolexic can provide a clear insight into malicious traffic, as well as a back-up system that we can switch over to if necessary. With Prolexic on board we are sure to prevent the re-occurrence of such attacks in the future.”

“Attackers are smart and their strategies are constantly changing, so our 24/7 team of security experts reacts and mitigates these new attack types as they happen,” said Paul Sop, Prolexic CTO. “That's one of the biggest differences between off-the-shelf solutions and the level of DDoS protection Prolexic provides. A service can offer a tailored solution that specifically responds to the needs of the customer, react to each type of attack and enable the affected organization to continue to do business.”
