Solid to Deliver Pre-Packaged Database High Availability To MySQL Users

April 19, 2007; 04:54 AM
Solid Information Technology, the leading provider of fast, always-on and affordable databases used in more than 3,000,000 mission-critical deployments worldwide, today announced that it will deliver advanced high availability functionality as a pre-packaged option for users of its open source database -- solidDB for MySQL. For the first time, MySQL users can rely on a ready to install product and avoid the risk and complexity of custom-made solutions which require assembling several different components, and thus are costly to implement and maintain. Solid will demonstrate a prototype of the solidDB for MySQL high availability option at the annual 2007 MySQL Conference & Expo, April 23-27 in Santa Clara, Calif. in Booth #401.

Pre-packaged and ready to install, solidDB for MySQL high availability option enables MySQL users to achieve higher levels of data availability faster and at a lower cost. The Solid solution leverages the company’s history of delivering highly available databases that are extremely easy to deploy and administer. This product option features a hot standby architecture that uses synchronous replication to maintain two copies of solidDB for MySQL, synchronized at all times. Contrary to solutions that leverage asynchronous replication, Solid’s synchronous replication capability ensures that no transaction is lost, minimizing business disruption and dramatically shortening recovery time. Also, unique to this product option is its ability to allow users to adjust replication settings to achieve the right balance among data safety, application throughput, and recovery time, ultimately giving users more power to achieve their business application goals.

Additionally, to achieve the lowest possible total cost of ownership, Solid’s high availability option takes advantage of standard MySQL interfaces and will function out-of-the-box with popular MySQL monitoring and management tools, including Webyog’s MONyog and PremiumSoft’s Navicat.

“The rise of MySQL’s popularity in the enterprise has not been paralleled by a rise of cost-efficient, high-availability database technology options that can support business-critical applications,” said Susan Eustis, President, WinterGreen Research. “Market-readiness of a pre-packaged, pluggable high availability option for MySQL users has strong potential for adoption.”

“The advanced high availability features that Solid plans to deliver to MySQL users combined with the company’s history of meeting the rigorous data availability demands of the communications industry made Solid an ideal technology partner,” said Rohit Nadhani, CEO, Webyog. “We look forward to demonstrating our MySQL monitoring capabilities with a prototype of Solid’s high availability features for solidDB for MySQL at this year’s MySQL User Conference.”

“In January of this year, we announced our plan to continue delivering advanced capabilities in solidDB for MySQL. We are delivering the first step in this strategy at this years MySQL Conference, with the prototype of our pre-packaged high availability option,” said Alain Couder, CEO and president Solid Information Technology. “Solid looks forward to providing an alpha version of this new capability to MySQL users this summer, and a beta version later this year.”

While Solid works to deliver this powerful functionality, users can already take advantage of version 5.0 of solidDB for MySQL which has been generally available since December 2006. This turbo-charged version of the MySQL database leverages solidDB Storage Engine to support heavy transaction volumes and large numbers of concurrent users. Benchmark results published in early 2007 confirmed that solidDB for MySQL is the open source database that meets the performance and scalability requirements of high throughput, mission-critical applications.(1)
