CMP Technology's Sys Admin Technical Conference Announces Distinguished Line-up of Presenters

April 18, 2007; 05:31 AM

CMP Technology's Sys Admin magazine, the journal for Unix and Linux systems administrators, today announced the industry experts who will be presenting at its first Sys Admin Technical Conference May 7-8 at the Sheraton Inner Harbor in Baltimore.

This year's presenters are:

-- Richard Bejtlich is the founder of TaoSecurity, a company that helps clients detect, contain, and remediate intrusions using Network Security Monitoring (NSM) principles. He has authored or co-authored several security books, including The Tao of network Security Monitoring (Addison-Wesley, 2004).

-- AEleen Frisch, Exponential Consulting, has been a systems administrator for over 25 years, tending a plethora of VMS, Unix, and Windows systems over the years. She is also a writer, lecturer, teacher, marketing consultant, and occasional database programmer. She has written eight books, including Essential System Administration (now in its third edition).

-- Tom Limoncelli has been a systems administrator and network engineer since 1987. He speaks at conferences around the world on topics ranging from firewall security to time management. He is the author of Time Management for Systems Administrators (O'Reilly, 2005) and, along with Christine Hogan, co-author of the book The Practice of System and Network Administration (Addison-Wesley, 2002).

-- Hal Pomeranz is the founder and technical lead of Deer Run Associates and has been active in the system and network management/security field for 20 years. He is the technical editor for Sys Admin magazine and a faculty fellow for the SANS Institute. In 2001, he was given the SAGE Outstanding Achievement Award for his teaching and leadership in the field of system administration.

-- Randal L. Schwartz is a two-decade veteran of the software industry -- skilled in software design, system administration, security, technical writing, and training. He has co-authored the "must-have" standards: Programming Perl (O'Reilly, 1996), Learning Perl (O'Reilly, 2005), Learning Perl for Win32 Systems (O'Reilly, 1997), and Effective Perl Programming (Addison-Wesley, 1997). He also has written regular columns for Web Techniques, UnixReview.com, Sys Admin, and Linux magazines. Since 1985, Randal has owned and operated Stonehenge Consulting Services.

The two-day conference consists of security and scripting tracks, with courses for beginners and experienced administrators. The security track will provide essential information to help administrators stay current with the latest threats and to implement powerful tools and techniques to keep their systems secure. The scripting track offers basic-to-advanced levels of scripting training to help administrators solve hundreds of problems. The courses describe the underlying technology features and limitations to help avoid common scripting mistakes, understand the best practices, and implement solutions quickly.
