Third Brigade Demonstrates Latest Host Intrusion Prevention System for EHR Applications at HIMSS 07

February 26, 2007; 04:31 AM
Third Brigade (www.thirdbrigade.com), a security software company that specializes in host intrusion prevention systems, today announced Deep Security 5, the newest release of its product, will be presented, and will demonstrate how healthcare organizations can:

• protect EHR and other systems from known and zero-day attacks;

• implement security best practices to protect sensitive information and comply with HIPAA regulations;

• shield vulnerabilities in critical and hard to patch systems, allowing patches to be deployed on a more efficient, scheduled basis.

Healthcare organizations rely heavily on critical EHR, e-health and enterprise systems that are increasingly accessible via the Internet. As a result it’s become more challenging and important to protect the availability and integrity of these systems, and the confidentially of sensitive patient and medical data.

"Protecting patient and medical information is of the utmost importance to us, and to our customers," said Stanley Crane, CTO of Allscripts, the leading U.S. provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions. "We’ve concluded that host intrusion prevention is a highly recommended component to ensuring a complete and sound security posture for EHR Systems."

Third Brigade Deep Security (www.thirdbrigade.com/product.aspx?id=48) brings proven network security approaches, including firewall and intrusion detection and prevention, down to individual computers and devices. It shields vulnerabilities in Windows, Linux and Unix operating systems, as well as enterprise and web applications common to healthcare providers.

"Host intrusion prevention is recognized as a security best-practice and complements the defense-in-depth strategy used by leading healthcare providers and EHR vendors," said Brian O’Higgins, CTO of Third Brigade. "Third Brigade’s host intrusion prevention system further reduces the risk of a security incident by inspecting all incoming and outgoing traffic for protocol deviations, content that signals an attack, or policy violations."

In addition, Blake Sutherland (P.Eng., CISSP, OPST), the company’s Vice President of Product Management will present at the Exhibit Hall, in the Security and Privacy Theater (Booth # 7453), on Wednesday, February 28 at 5:15pm CT.

Mr. Sutherland’s presentation is entitled "Top Five Security Practices for Protecting E-Health Systems from Vulnerabilities." This session will explain how cyber criminals are exploiting software vulnerabilities in e-health systems. It provides practical suggestions that healthcare providers and systems vendors can implement as part of a defense-in-depth strategy. About Third Brigade

Third Brigade (www.thirdbrigade.com) specializes in providing host intrusion defense systems to organizations that need to detect and prevent attacks that exploit vulnerabilities in mission critical systems. Third Brigade Deep Security allows businesses to apply comprehensive security profiles to hosts that protect against known and zero-day attacks using deep packet inspection. It helps ensure compliance and the 24-7 availability of critical systems, provides a virtual patch for software vulnerabilities, and allows organizations to deliver Internet-based services with greater security and confidence. Unlike other host intrusion detection and prevention systems, Third Brigade Deep Security provides broader, faster and simpler protection. Third Brigade. That’s control.
