January 30, 2007; 03:16 AM SapphireSteel Software today announced the immediate availability of
Ruby In Steel Developer - the only professional Ruby programming
environment for Microsoft's Visual Studio 2005.
Ruby In Steel Developer includes the ultra-fast 'Cylon' debugger. In
benchmark tests, Cylon has recorded speeds over 100 (one hundred) times
faster than the standard Ruby debugger. Ruby In Steel Developer also
has full analytical IntelliSense (not just 'code completion') for Ruby
and Rails. It is the only professional Ruby development suite for
Microsoft's Visual Studio 2005.
Today SapphireSteel Software also announced a free 30-day Trial version
of Ruby In Steel Developer with immediate availability. The Trial
Edition has all the major features of the commercial edition including
the fast Cylon debugger, IntelliSense, editing and project management.
In addition, there is a completely free version of the software - Ruby
In Steel Personal Edition (PE) - which has a slower debugger and lacks
IntelliSense. The Personal Edition is available for unrestricted use
and is not time-limited.
A complete feature list of both the Developer and Personal Editions can be found on the SapphireSteel Software web site: http://sapphiresteel.com/spip.php?page=feature-list
Pricing
Ruby In Steel Developer is priced at $249. For a limited period, early
adopters will be able to buy at the launch price of $199. Ruby In Steel
PE ('Personal Edition') is free.
Future Developments
SapphireSteel Software has published a Road Map outlining features of
the forthcoming releases of Ruby In Steel throughout 2007. The first
major update will be version 1.2 (the 'Visual Rails' edition) and will
culminate with version 1.5, due for release in the third quarter of
2007. Registered users of Ruby In Steel Developer 1.x will be offered
free updates to all versions of the software up to and including
version 1.5.
About Ruby and Ruby On Rails
Ruby is an object oriented, interpreted, programming language. During
2006, it emerged from relative obscurity to become one of the fastest
growing languages globally. According to the January 2007 TIOBE index
of programming language popularity (http://www.tiobe.com/tpci.htm),
Ruby now stands at position 10 (an eleven place rise during the past
year alone); Ruby is now above Delphi, COBOL and Ada, and just beneath
JavaScript, Python and C#. TIOBE named Ruby its "Programming Language
of the Year."
Ruby On Rails ('Rails') is a web application framework for Ruby. It
enables developers to create interactive, data-driven, applications
such as Blogs, Wikis and eCommerce sites. Ruby On Rails won the Jolt
Award for the best Web Development Tool of 2006.
