Ping Identity Announces PingTrust 2 With Code-Free Security Interceptors

New Release of Standalone WS-Trust Security Token Service (STS) Simplifies Integration With Java and .NET Web Services Clients and Providers

November 30, 2006; 03:59 AM
Ping Identity Corporation today announced that PingTrust 2 is now available for free and immediate download from its Web site, www.pingidentity.com. PingTrust 2 includes significant improvements that give customers the ability to rapidly extend identity management systems to Web services and Service Oriented Architectures. PingTrust 2 provides pre-built interceptors that perform Web Services Security processing for Java applications and eliminate the need to write integration code.

The industrys first completely standalone WS-Trust Security Token Server, PingTrust extends standards-based Identity Management to Web services. With PingTrust, Web services can access digital identities to provide enhanced services while simultaneously ensuring appropriate information access. PingTrust manages the validation and exchange of digital identities between browser-based and browser-less applications and connected Web services.

According to a recent report by Ray Wagner, managing V.P., Gartner Inc., Web services today typically decouple the person who authorizes or requests a transaction from the Web services transaction. Once this decoupling takes place, there is no way of knowing who authorized the transaction, and this presents an unacceptable security risk. For this reason, an enterprise Web services environment should include a security token service that creates, translates and validates security assertions (typically identity-based tokens) for attachment to transactions.

PingTrust 2 provides two different methods for integrating with applications. The first is through the use of Security Interceptors, which allow Java developers to use WS-Trust and Web Services Security support for Web services without writing code. The PingTrust Security Interceptors are implemented as JAX-RPC handlers and are deployed within a JBoss application server that hosts Web Services Clients and/or Providers.

The second method of integration is through using the PingTrust client SDK, which allows developers to access PingTrust services without having to work at the WS-Trust level. The SDK includes libraries for Java and .NET that allow native access to PingTrust from each of those platforms.

"PingTrust makes secure single sign-on for Web services a reality," said Srithal Bellary, senior director, application development, SHPS, Inc. "With PingTrust we can securely extend user identity information to all internal and external Web services. With PingTrust, we will create a better experience for our customers and significantly decrease our password management costs."

SHPS, Inc. provides a broad range of health management tools, resources and services that empower consumers to make wise healthcare decisions. SHPS selected PingTrust to add single sign-on capabilities to their Web services and applications, leveraging standards and replacing an existing, proprietary method used with external partners.
