Fonality Introduces trixbox 2.0 Next-Gen Asterisk-Based Application Platform

October 26, 2006; 05:41 AM
Fonality, a leader in open source, Asterisk-based IP telephony systems, today announced trixbox 2.0, the newest version of its easy to use open source telephony and application platform. The new version, which can be installed in less than an hour, provides the trixbox community with increased reliability and many new features including a point-and-click, web-based graphical user interface (GUI) that dramatically increases ease of use, streamlines installation and virtually eliminates the need for the command line. trixbox 2.0 expands the traditional open source LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP/PERL) stack to LAAMPS by providing Asterisk telephony and SugarCRM customer relationship management. The software also includes FreePBX, FOP and HUDlite. The beta version of trixbox 2.0 is available for immediate download from www.trixbox.org and the final version will be available within 30 days.

“trixbox 2.0 is the easiest to use version yet. If you can use a mouse and have a spare hour, you can roll 2.0 and get, not just Asterisk, but integrated business applications like MySQL and SugarCRM,” said Chris Lyman, Fonality’s founder and CEO. “Moving forward, our plan is to add even more application support so that the community will be able to build their complete business infrastructure on the trixbox platform.”

trixbox 2.0’s new global, web-based GUI package manager lets companies choose which packages to install, as few or as many applications as they need. New to this release is the web-based package manager, which allows users to upgrade individual components of their deployment versus having to reinstall from scratch with each upgrade. In addition, trixbox 2.0 provides the trixbox community with deeper application integration with SugarCRM, drivers for Sangoma voice cards and integration with the LumenVox Speech Engine.

“This new version of trixbox is the best ever,” said Andrew Gillis, trixbox founder and director of community development at Fonality. “We listened to the trixbox community and responded to their requests for an easy to use GUI, a package manager, more stability, expanded choices of applications and support for more hardware features. We couldn’t have added so many features so quickly without the team of dedicated engineers and resources Fonality has provided to the trixbox community.”

“trixbox 2.0 makes it easy for small businesses to deploy powerful, integrated SugarCRM capabilities with their trixbox phone system,” said John Roberts, chairman, CEO and co-founder of SugarCRM. “We look forward to the continuing growth of the trixbox community and making SugarCRM, the world’s leading provider of commercial-open source CRM software, available to them.”

MySQL, part of the LAAMPS stack in trixbox 2.0, brings powerful database capabilities to the trixbox community. “As part of the trixbox stack, MySQL provides a high-speed database foundation that improves uptime and enables easy integration with other business applications,” said Marten Mickos, CEO of MYSQL AB. “MySQL database software is already being used by hundreds of thousands of trixbox users. We look forward to working closely with Fonality to grow and expand the thriving trixbox community.”
