May 3, 2006; 03:14 AM Perl Bootcamp returns to the Big Nerd Ranch in July under the
leadership of Perl expert, brian d foy. In keeping with its commitment
to excellence in instruction, the Big Nerd is pleased to have brian d
foy join its ranks of industry leading instructors. Mr. foy has
achieved distinction in the Perl community as a co-author of works for
O'Reilly, including Learning Perl (4th Edition) and Intermediate Perl.
He is also known for his publication of The Perl Review, the only print
magazine devoted to Perl. He has presented at numerous conferences and
created the first ever Perl user group, the New York Perl Mongers, and
founded and runs the non-profit Perl-advocacy foundation, Perl Mongers,
Inc., devoted to the establishment and promotion of Perl user groups
throughout the world. Given his level of expertise, knowledge, and
renown in the Perl community, brian d foy's exceptional gifts as a
long-time instructor of Perl programming comes as a pleasant surprise.
"There are many gifted programmers in the world who are passionate
about their subject areas. However, passion doesn't always translate
into the ability to communicate information to fellow users in a
classroom setting," mused Aaron Hillegass, Big Nerd Ranch founder.
"brian is an exceptional engineer and instructor. The Big Nerd Ranch is
excited to have a powerhouse like brian instructing one of our
bootcamps, especially one so content-rich as Perl. If you need to learn
to use Perl effectively, sign up for the class before your seat is
gone."
The July bootcamp promises students that, at the end of five days, they
will be writing complex, database-driven web applications. In addition,
students will emerge able to:
use regular expressions to easily manipulate text data
use modules from the CPAN, Perl's vast archive of free code
access databases with DBI
master creating, renaming and deleting files and directories
forking and piping data to forked processes

The Big Nerd Ranch incorporates intensive training classes for Unix and
Mac OS X programmers in a retreat setting outside Atlanta, GA and in
Europe. Class price of $3500 includes lodging, all meals, original
instruction materials, 24-hour lab access, and transportation to and
from the Atlanta airport. Students are encouraged to bring independent
projects to class, allowing for input from classmates and individual
instructor attention. For more information, call 678-595-6773 or visit www.bignerdranch.com.
