Ektron, Inc., a technology and market leader in web content management software, and SitePoint, which runs sitepoint.com, one of the most visited sites in the world, and is a provider of practical content and resources for web professionals, today announced that the results of their survey of web professionals one of the largest ever conducted revealed a trend toward the adoption of ASP.NET 2.0 and Ruby on Rails.

The survey consisted of 15 questions, including queries about the development environments that web developers use and the server technologies for which they are developing. Participants were also asked what technologies they use currently and which ones they expect to start using during the next 12 months.

Once correlated, the responses showed that web developers technological preferences are based on their existing skill sets, that their personalities affect tool choice, and that they exhibit strong allegiances to the tools they use. The cutting-edge web gurus are much more willing to try emerging technologies, while the more mainstream corporate communities take longer to adopt technology, as they tend to lack confidence in new technologies.

In addition, the data indicated that, in the near future, the adoption of ASP.NET 2.0 and Ruby on Rails will grow more than that of other technologies with 22 percent and 24 percent of respondents expecting to use these platforms in the next 12 months.

The State of Web Development 2006/2007 includes additional in-depth analysis regarding trends in the use of a variety of development tools.
