The Python Foundation announced the release of a third, unexpected, and final (for sure this time, they tell us) beta versionof Python 2.5.   Over 50 bug fixes have been made since the second beta.

"This large number of changes meant we felt more comfortable cutting a third beta release, rather than charging ahead to the release candidate," said the development team.  The beta release is available for download; feedback is encouraged.  The final release will be ready in the coming weeks.

Python 2.5 is now in feature freeze mode. Unless absolutely necessary, no functionality changes will be made between now and the final release of Python 2.5.

Python is a powerful dynamic programming language that is used in a wide variety of application domains. Python is often compared to Tcl, Perl, Ruby, Scheme or Java. Python 2.5 is the latest major release of programming language. The "What's New" section at http://docs.python.org/dev/whatsnew/whatsnew25.html provides detailed information about new features.
