Have you ever been to a concert of late? Or to a corporate event? If you have, then you will notice that what separates one event from another is usually measured not by virtue of the performance (though this is still a useful metric) or lack thereof, but the most memorable thing about the event that is likely to linger in your mind long after the event is how the digital signage was. You will remember in very clear detail, the lights, the size of the video wall and the digital signs that were spread all over the place.

Therefore, there is a very clear relation between the value of the event and the type of digital signage software that was in use. The long and short of this is that you must make sure that your digital on-premise presence is up to par if you are to enjoy the best reception for your event. Now begs the question, how do I go about getting a quality service provider who can customize a solution that will take my whole experience to the next level?

Luckily, the internet and the ecosystem it has bred have led to the creation of a robust system which has put digital signage in its proper place, which is at the forefront of all types of indoor and outdoor advertising solutions. Throw in the ubiquitous cloud and you have a potent mix, which if used well can take you, as an event organizer, to levels that you hitherto thought never existed. The cost of these solutions continues to plummet, making them affordable to everyone across the board.

Let’s explore the exciting ways in which digital signage can be used to quite literally, light up your event;

  • Digital Assisted Room Navigation- Once upon a time in the golden era of paper, in the realm of event management, if you needed to guide attendees to get from point A to point B, all that was needed was to print out card board paper with large two dimensional arrows to urge them in that direction.

The problem with this problem was that if you were running an event with less than a hundred people in a small area, then it was likely to work, somewhat. Now scale that to thousands of attendees, needing to be in multiple places at the same time and you begin to envision the mayhem that is likely to ensue.

That was then, the analog, one dimensional era, and this is now, the dynamic digital age.  In this age, you can dynamically display a map on Digital Signage displays showing the various attendees where they need to be and at what time, to engage in a specific activity. You can therefore use these displays to show real-time maps and this makes for a more manageable experience.

  • Digital Social Schedule – Long gone are the days when a handwritten letter was mailed or better still hand delivered to attendees invited to attend an event. In this day and age, there is specialized event management software which allows attendees to confirm their participation in the event on line.

This makes the event managers have a fairly clear idea of the number of attendees in advance and to plan on how to manage them effectively. In the golden age, it was impossible to ascertain the total numbers of attendees in advance and also there was no way you could change the printed schedule dynamically.

Thanks to software that can do this in real time and digital video walls, you can connect these two and have a real-time display that indicates the event changes in real time. Thus, digital signs present a clear platform through which everyone can be clearly informed in real time of the changes and updates to the schedule, a cool thing indeed.

  • Real-Time Social Media Walls–Now that we have made good use of digital media as a substitute to paper based media, let’s go a step further and do things that you could never have done before and this is where displaying social media on digital signage comes in.

Connecting your digital displays to live Twitter or Instagram feeds with the hash tag of your event makes for a more interactive session as participants can interact in real time with the rest of the audience in fun ways.

This is where digital displays come in. You can use them to create a dedicated video wall that engages the participants of the event in the way in which they are used to communicating out there in the real world and this is through Social Media.

  • Interactive Poster Gallery–An interactive poster gallery takes this interaction a notch higher as it complements the real time social media social sharing video wall. In this case, the participants of the event instead of having to go to a notice board in which all the presents and other literature relevant to the event is pinned to a wall, it is all done digitally displaying the notices simultaneously across all the digital signs that are distributed across the event space. Out with the paper based bulletin board and in with the fully interactive real-time digital board.
  • Digital Competition Leaderboards – Digital Signage can be used further to spice up the event by putting up a live leaderboard, which in essence should involve some type of digital gaming or gamification, just to make everything more interesting for the attendees.

There are various digital games that can be designed and whose results can be dynamically shared across the digital displays. This will enhance cohesion among the attendees, whilst making sure that they are all fully engaged in the events that are taking place.

  • Digitally Shareable Notes – Another creative way of going about the whole process might involve you having a channel where all the notes that attendees are taking in the course of the event are shared easily and displayed prominently on video walls.

The long and short of this article is that there is virtually an unlimited number of ways you can use digital signage to add oomph to your event, only your imagination will hold you back.
